QUETTA: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar on Wednesday ordered the arrest of a 70-year-old man alleged of marrying a minor girl in Qila Abdullah district of Balochistan.
Nisar headed a three-member bench hearing the underage marriage case at Supreme Court’s (SC) Quetta Registry. The court ordered to present the 70-year-old in the court within ten days.
The brother of the minor girl had filed a complaint regarding the forced marriage, which took place in 2017 as per ‘tradition’. He also claimed to have been kidnapped in July 2017 from the district’s Gulistan area for lodging complaints.
The brother said that the police had not made any arrests even when the family informed about the alleged threats made by the other party.
Balochistan Inspector General Police (IGP) Moazzam Jah Ansari, District Deputy Commissioner (DDC) and District Police Officer (DPO) Qila Abdullah district appeared before the court.
The investigating officer informed the court that four suspects had been arrested but had been granted bail by the SC, whereas the main accused had run away.
Nisar ordered the police to arrest the absconder immediately and adjourned the hearing of the case until April 23.
